This piece feels a lot like my face split up, with flaws that make me look different. The broken glass is like how my thoughts often break my sense of self and send it all over the place. When I try to get clear, the chaos inside me blurs my vision and makes it hard to find myself.

Swimming in Isolation

This acrylic piece aims to incapsulate the isolation and loneliness that students may find surrounds them when they fully commit to the full time study schedule. The paint splotches of different shades of blue around the sides gives the effect of movement, suggesting water, while covering part of the face. This symbolises that this feeling can be overcome. The Invisible Hand

The struggle between heaven and hell. The central figure, encased in a glass jar, faces the viewer, questioning her choices. Though her body leans towards hell, an invisible hand guides her, representing faith. Floating in an ocean, she is both protected and conflicted. Her brown colour reflects race and the ability to sculpt herself. Surrealism and expressionism depict a journey of self-discovery.

Rebirth is based on grief and the process of accepting loss. In this image “Rebirth 2”, I explored the ideas of death, afterlife and immortality. Water has been widely used throughout history to symbolise change, healing and rebirth. Inspired by this concept I focused my subjects in a large body of water, specifically at the beach where one world meets another.

This piece represents the labels or "masks" i had to wear growing up to feel loved, like i belonged and to feel that i was enough. This piece represents my journey through depression and anxiety to recognise the masks i was wearing and ultimately the removal and "burning" of these, recognising that i am loved, i belong and i am enough as i am.

As the old proverb goes, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away". Art is sometimes the proverbial apple for my mental health. I think we should all think about what we can do to create joy for ourselves, whether that's putting brush to paper, singing a favourite tune or composing a haiku about the passing of the seasons.

My limbs are like air flowing, defying gravity. I am beautifully intact but sting when you come too close. One day I sink below the depths, the next I wash up on the shore. Still A Butterfly

This piece of art was done through processing my emotion I find using different textures very soothing and grounding. When going through grief she is still a butterfly, she is still beautiful, she is still powerful, she is still worthy and enough. She is not a caterpillar anymore she is simply floating through this feeling of loss. Sometimes the butterfly needs this reminder.
